GPs prescribing Mounjaro
As per the news today, Prescriptions for Mounjaro jabs, to help people lose weight, will be available at GP surgeries in England - but only for those who meet very strict criteria.
Do not book an appointment about weight loss injections if you are not eligible. The GP will not be able to issue you a prescription.
The criteria to qualify for GP prescribed Mounjaro is very strict. Please see the eligibility criteria below.
- Your BMI must be above 40. You can check your BMI on the NHS website (check your BMI here) if you know your height and weight. We will check your height and weight at your appointment, so it must be accurate.
- As well as a BMI over 40, you must have a confirmed diagnosis of at least four out of the following five health conditions:
- Hypertension (high blood pressure) needing medication
- Sleep apnoea (confirmed at a sleep clinic)
- Type 2 diabetes
- Cardiovascular disease (heart disease, vascular disease, or stroke)
- Hypercholesterolaemia (high cholesterol)
Please do not contact the surgery if you do not meet the criteria.
