Right to Choose (RTC)
Information for patients
Introduction
Thank you for reaching out to us about the Right to Choose (RTC) pathway. We are here to help and understand that this may be a difficult and frustrating time for you.
Adult referrals are currently on hold
Adult ADHD and ASD referrals are currently on hold pending updated guidance. Referrals for children’s ADHD and ASD continue to be processed as normal.
Living with ADHD or Autism
Many people living with ADHD or autism find ways to manage their symptoms using a variety of helpful strategies. Even without a diagnosis, support and practical advice is available to help with daily life, routines, relationships, and emotional wellbeing. What is the Right to Choose Pathway?
The RTC pathway allows patients in England to choose their healthcare provider for certain specialist services, including ADHD and autism assessments. This means that if NHS waiting times are particularly long in your area, you may have the option to be referred to an alternative provider who may be able to assess you sooner. More information about this process can be found on ADHD UK’s website.
Next steps
We want to ensure that you get the help you need promptly. If you wish to proceed with an RTC referral, the next steps are as follows:
- Complete the relevant ADHD/Autism questions and/or questionnaires below
Please note: both the relevant forms need to be completed so we can process the referral.
Important considerations
We understand that long waiting times for NHS assessments can be frustrating, and the RTC pathway can sometimes offer a quicker route. However, we want to be transparent that while some providers may have shorter waiting lists, an RTC referral does not guarantee an urgent assessment.
Waiting times vary between providers, and once assessed, any follow-up care or treatment will still be subject to shared care agreements with the providers.
Please feel free to get in touch with our reception team to arrange an appointment or if you need any further support.
